Is it true? PLEASE tell me the directors are just screwing with us.
I read on Anime News Network that they cancelled the second season of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu) was cancelled to make way for a new series entirely with Haruhi as the main character. I like Haruhi 'n all but... ITS JUST NOT THE SAME!
Please tell me if this is just a disgusting, vicious rumor.

Haruhi's not canceled... It's just a reference to the fourth volume of the light novel, revolving around "Haruhi's disapearance." It was just a creative way to give more information about the next season- as the ANN article you are referencing states...

A new series entirely with Haruhi as the main character? Er, isn't that what the originial series is all about? A series on Haruhi?
Now, if they gonna do something like Gundam ZZ and Gundam Seed Destiny. Okay, there could be a problem. They're not going to have Sakamoto Maaya voicing for a new character, are they?

yeah, cuz they are going to give it a new title, not The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi anymore but 'The Dissappearence of Suzumiya Haruhi'. Of course, in other words, it means the first title is cancelled..

Ye there will be a total of 24 episodes the first 12 bienf reruns of the last season so basically only 24 and it will be a continuation, as for the release i thought it was this month to. i think it will be in the fall anime lineup mostlikely
