I don't think anything should be illegal that does not infringe on anyone else's right to Life, Liberty, or Property.
Drugs, prostitution, and gambling clearly do not infringe on anyone rights.
The only question with abortion is when does a baby become a citizen with all the rights we all have.
I'm not going to change anyones mind on this an no one else is so I think this is probably the LEAST important issue of our time.

I'm pro-choice for many reasons, but these are the top 2:
I think every woman and man should have a choice to do what they want with their own body. No one cares what a woman does in everyday life, but when it comes to abortions, suddenly, everyone wants to butt in and make decisions for her. Are you seriously that bored with your life that you have to go ruin someone else's?
2nd reason: Every situation is different! You cannot pass a law to illegalize something based on one circumstance. Pro-lifers say "well she shoulda used a condom in the first place." Yeah, well what if she did?
I would say MUCH more, since I am very opinionated about this topic, but I feel too lazy to write more.
Oh, and about the marijuana thing, I think even that should be legalized. Either way, people are doing it, and it's increasing the crime rate. Most people I know do it just because it is illegal, anyway.

The right of others and the state ends where our body begins. Since the 1950's society has become more prone to legislate what is good and what is not good for us as individuals, and our own choosing of what we do in this context. Now mama knows best is the prevalent attitude and sometimes that may be correct, as you cant jump off a bridge, but it gets confusing, we can imbibe all the alcohol we want, get all the prescription drugs we want, provided mama agrees, she legally provides this too us. The basis here is it depends on economic and political issues. An abortion be your view yes or no, is based on politics as are any drugs legal or not.

from experience, I can tell you that every possible choice a woman can make after she finds out she's pregnant and didn't want to be leads the woman to decades or a lifetime of heartache.
it doesn't matter which choice you as an outsider advocate -- if the woman makes that choice she'll have heartache of it for decades. I know. At least one woman I know has tried each possible choice.
**
What that suggests to me is that the woman involved gets to choose and that I have no say whatsoever unless she chooses to ask my opinion. And then if she chooses something other than what I think, it is my task to shut up, smile, and assure her that she made the right choice.
**
Any other position on my part, or the part of any other outsider whatsoever, is next to criminal, in my opinion. We don't have to put up with the emotional consequences in anything like the same degree. We aren't going to agonize over whether we did evil, or made a wrong choice, for the rest of our lives. She is.
Intentionally inflicting serious or severe emotional pain on another person is evil.
While I can not prevent you from doing evil, I surely do not have to welcome evildoers into my house, nor into my life.

Great question.
I think the difference is harm to others.
We all know that users are more likely to crash cars, lie, cheat, steal and worse to support their habit. That's why we originally outlawed these substances.
Now, abortion is definately harmful for the unborn baby, BUT in the eyes of the law, it's not a child until the pregnancy is so far along. (can't remember what the gestational age is, I think 8 months, but I'm not sure)
So, users are breaking the law because they can, potentially, harm others. IN THE EYES OF THE LAW (I don't necessarily agree, no hate mail please) The abortion isn't harming anyone but the mother, which is her right.

Well first of all I am intrigued how many men are interested on the topic of abortion, since it is a woman's body and you will never ever have to make the sole decision that will affect your body and your life. As far as I am concerned, men have no say when it comes to abortion until they can actually carry a baby, then tell us women how easy a decision could be. Please.

I am for individual choice.
I can find no reason in logic for a government to enter the womb of a female, even in a fundie religious dictatorship.
Governments and others who hate and fear freedom will, of course, try to do this but free peoples must resist them.

There is no connection between a pregnant woman who must decide to give birth or not and a junkie who wants to toke, snort or shoot up.

Abortion is murder. We have become so shallow and calloused that we no longer understand this. 30 years ago the thought of sucking a fetus out of a woman and throwing it in a plastic bag for disposal, would have sickened us. Now it's not even an afterthought.
Right to choose: she could choose to wait, choose to say NO, choose another form of activity, choose to go and get protection, etc. She has lots of choices. Abortion should not be one of them.

marijuana is illegal by federal statue, making the knowing decision to use marijuana is a conscious federal crime.
abortion, termination, DnC...whatever you wish to call it is a legal operation, making the knowing decision to utilize the proceedure is a legal option.
abortion and use of marijuana are not the same fruits in the barrel.
