I searched about this for about fifty years and I found out that meditation works best. It not only calm one and clears the mind, it goes much further and as a result it gives a strong base from that one can deal with all difficulties in life with a positive attitude and gives the ability to handle life in a creative way. So my main intention is to give advice and help with meditation or with an exercise I call 'StressReleaseExercise'. You can get advice how to do it at my Web page: http://falconblanco.com/release
If there is showing up any difficulty, then you can ask me for help.

Perhaps you are asking how can you regain objectivity from some subjective nature that has you in an uncomfortable state of being. Or perhaps you need to concentrate and focus on one object and then let yourself go of that object and not attach your thinking activity to any other objects. Enjoy the state of non attachment is in a way being clear of all thoughts in that you don't let them carry you off into their patterns. The internal space of the mind can be a raucous place for many modern people. Being free of this raucousness is in actuality stimulating the pleasure centers of the mind.

I prefer a combination of actions. First, I run for approximately 30 minutes. Then I do a cool down - in both meanings of the word. I walk for at least 5 minutes and leisurely enjoy the acts of getting cleaned up. If necessary, I can follow up with 30 minutes of focused relaxation. Take long, slow deep breaths, while concentrating on relaxing every part of your body - starting from the feet and working your way up to your head.

Key notes: 1. Do not try to over-do your running if you're not in shape! Start with a pace you KNOW you can maintain for 30 minutes. If in doubt, consult a physician. 2. Make certain you get your heart rate to a level consistent with aerobic activity. That means you're gonna sweat ;) 3. If something is weighing on you very heavily, talk to somebody: family, friend, minister, health care provider...good luck!

lavender candles, fire, a bath topped with rose petals, soft music in the background a book or perhaps just yourself. no distractions. Floral scents are always good for clearing the mind. Other scents as well.

To relax: lavender.
To renew/rejuvinate: peppermint oils.
To energize: Orange peel.

I meditate, personally. It's a choice. Many people can't really get into themselves spiritually, but if you have an open mind to it you should really try that. It's very powerful.

or ... you could toke. haha, if you're into it.

peace and love :)

go running with headphones on... choose music that matches your mood... or the mood you want to be in.

also, sometimes if something is bothering me i do a free write. I simply write everything im thinking even if it's crazy... i just continuously write until i cant write anymore, or i feel content. You might think, this will only make me focus on my problems.. but after you will feel better, and your head will clear up.

Breathing meditation. It will calm both your body and your mind. Simply focus on your breathing. If thoughts or emotions come up, allow them, then release them, then refocus your mind on your breathing. It works very well for me.

This sounds weird, but I wash dishes.
Hot water, suds, and repetitive motion helps me.
