I assume you're talking about the E1200 coming out next month. They expect it to be a great overclocker but, if you dont have a motherboard that lets you, thats a mute point.
If you have a board that allows you to overclock then the 1.6 might be a good choice. COD4, for example, requires a 1.8 dual minimum and, althou some games allow you to install them without meeting their minimum requirements, some don't. Althou more efficient than the 3.0 cpu you have, the 1.6 is still puny and, as efficient as it may be , its not going to make it run with a single core that's almost twice as big and in single-threaded apps, which most apps are. you're going to be running them at 1.6 on one core while the other core does nothing compared to running the thread at 3 gigs on your current cpu. My suggestion is that, if you have a board that will let you clock the dual up to about 2.2 then go with it, if not stay with your 3.0. If it were a 2.2 it would be a different story, but, it isn't.

they are not available yet until Jan.
but these new celeron are based on the conroe core so they will be like a low end core two duo so I would say they will scorch the yellow paint of a older 3.0 ghz. run with it.

There is NO dual core Celeron. BUT there is a cheap but really good Celeron 420 1.6gHz (Conroe L) that is based on Core2 Duo technology. It becomes spectacular when you overclock it.
Here's an overclocking exercise on its 2.0gHz brother.

The dual core counterpart is actually Pentium E2140 1.6gHz. Again, it gets pretty awesome when overclocked.

umm this is a tough one, see the 1.6 GHz is Dual core, and the 3.00 GHz one is not.

All depends on if you like to multi-task or not.

If you do multi-task get the 1.6 GHz.
