I've never understood what the problem is. Is it because they think mothers don't want to get pregnant again so soon? Or is there an actual, medical reason?

Is it hard to go for six weeks without having sex? Do most people break that rule? If you have, did anything bad happen?

The main reason is the risk of infection. Another reason is that many women have tearing or episiotomy stitches that need time to heal and for the new skin to regain strength.

You don't have to. Someone people start back the same day. I had an episiotomy so sex was out of the question that soon. Plus all the bleeding is a turn off. My husband and I had sex two weeks later. Some people wait six weeks so that they can get an okay from their doctor, to keep from tearing stitches, and some wait to get birth control. Just about everyone I know who has had a baby start having sex as soon as the soreness goes away--not six weeks later. However, make sure you use protection. I know four women who have babies nine months apart and one of them has three babies nine months apart.

I think it's just a precaution because they want your body to heal. You could have a set back, which would make you feel like you are in labor again. But other things can cause a set back too. I broke the rule nothing bad happend, I waited about 2 and 1/2- 3 weeks. I think when you stop bleeding for a couple days---It will be fine. PS. Im in my 4th pregnancy now.

For the first 3 weeks, it is very sore, sometimes still swollen. It is to give the uterus time to heal and return to its normal size. Its a medical reason. My doc said 4-6 weeks, but I should really wait til 6. Well, my husband and I did it once at 4 weeks, it kinda hurt, and we really couldn't do any crazy positions. It was very hard to hold back once the swelling went down and I "felt" normal. Having the baby was such a romantic thing, and we were a whole new kind of intimate after...

The reason behind waiting is because your body has just went through heck.... and needs time to heal. Think of the stress your body is put through having a child, also....... the reason is also because of it being sooooo easy to get pregnant again immediatly after having a child, which could potentinally be harmful to you and that unborn child. I'm sure some women do break the rule, which explains children being born 9mnths a part....... my suggestion is that if you can't wait........ get on birth control, use a condom and be very careful, if you just cant wait! Just remember sex is what got you pregnant to begin with..... do you want two children in diapers? two taking a bottle? one just learning to walk and talk while your nursing a newborn? just think it through, it's best to listen to the doctors after all they are the professionals and know it can be harmful!

Well I have five children and I have never waited six weeks and I have been just fine. Hell I actually had a baby 5 weeks ago and have been having sex for 2 weeks, they just want to make sure you are not bleeding and are safe from infections that is all because some women tear whil having a baby.

there are loads of reasons why you have to wait six weeks like bleeding is very heavy for a few weeks you may of had stitches which would be sore you can also get infections more easily
your Virgina needs time to heal and shrink back down it will of stretched out quite a bit during labor and honestly sex wont be that pleasurable if you can't feel him
the last thing on your mind will be sex when yo have just given birth you will be exhausted and be very busy caring for your newborn

a few reasons really , 1 your very fertile and pregnancy risk is very high , and if you get pregnant so soon after givin birth your not givin your body time to go back to pre pregnancy state , 2 your body needs to recover , 3 your more likely to get infected 4 if you had stitches it will be last thing on your mind as thought of sex after havin stitches in your lah lah is just awfull and 5 your most likely to be on a period for 4-6 weeks , so a lot of women sex is deffinatley a big no no after givin birth

There are alot of reasons - one you need heal nomatter which way you gave birth.
By having intercourse right after not only can it hurt you can cause damage to the healing tissue. In alot of cases - trust me you want to wait. I have had children both ways and did not want anything to do with sex right after so no it is not hard to wait.
My first born - natural - I was still in pain 3 months after giving birth to her.
C - section with my twins was a little easier and once the burning was gone from my scar I proceeded with intercourse. Every body is different.
Also it is dangerous for you and the child if you become pregnant right after having a child -

i think it's more so things can "recover" down there. my doctor didn't say i had to wait 6 weeks though. i think it's really up to the doctor and your situation... i went for a 4 week checkup after i had my son. i had also tore a tad with 3 stitches. my doctor said that everything was good at that point and did not restrict me in any way so... it just depends.
