They say the shorter the keeper, the easier it is to stop those low hard shots that can seem nearly impossible for the 6'5 keepers, however at 5'6 not only did Campos stop the low ones, in addition to his unusually bright keeper jerseys he's known for his incredible jumping ability, and acrobatics in goal, which stopped high shots as well. However, most people dont understand how truly versataille he was. When he played at UNAM i think it was or one of the other mexican first division teams, I know he played as a forward for most matches one season in addition to back up goal keeper and nearly won the scoring title, and continued this nearly unheard of practise until he took the number 1 jersey (top keeper for the club). He was in my opinion not only the best keeper ever to come out of mexico though not exactly of conventional size, but one of the best ever to come out of the Americas and would oust Ochoa and Sanchez for the mexican team top spot right now if he had been born 6-8 years later than he was. If you cant find any tapes of him on youtube, you might want to check out Renee Higuita of colombia i believe, who has a strikingly similar style of goal keeping to Campos' although i think Campos was a bit less foolhardy and more practical when it came to attempting to put on a show for the crowd. Both had an unusual tendency to play out of the box, and dribble a ways out side of it from time to time, and would rush 10-30 yards outside of the box to challenge the breakaway or attacking forward.

RE:
Was Jorge Campos a good goal keeper?
And would he be good enough to play in an English team today? If he would, what's the best team he could play for? Because he was only like 5"6 or something, which makes it hard to believe he was actually a keeper!

He was good, not great by any stretch of the imagination.
As you know, height is not the only factor involved for a player to be good at what he does. Campos had a great sence of the game and tremendous speed to stop incoming shots. He also had the ability to play in the field and get back to his post before a goal was scored on him.
All in all, I would have put him at goal keeper too. Unless I had a better keeper, of course.

I remember Jorge Campos being a revolutionary goalkeeper in Mexican soccer history with his offensive long shots and who can forget his colorful outfit! I was about 10 years old when I saw Jorge Campos goalkeeping for the Mexican national team in a very tight game for the France 1998 World Cup against "La Maquina Naranja" that is the Netherlands. Even though he had a lack in height he was able to make spectacular saves.

It is amazing how good he was for a short guy. I still think he was one of the best goal keepers to play the game.

He was a very good goalkeeper. I don't remember how tall he was, but if he was that short, he made up with talent. The rest of your question is just speculation.
