My favorite Rick Wakeman solo is probably from
"And You And I"
He just gave soo much to that song

But for Emerson it's definitely "Honky Tonk Train Blues"
I loooove that Honky Tonk Piano

Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson are My #1 &2 Keyboardists of all time

3)Wakeman-Awaken
Emerson-All of the 1000 solos on Karn Evil 9

I like keith because he uses so many different sounds and can really draw you into a different world
what Wakeman plays in a more elegant manner as mentioned above.
But my fav is Jon Lord because he is an amazing improviser

Having seen both in concert I'd say that's BS. Bq Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Bq2 Sabbra Cadabra by Black Sabbath (Rick Wakeman on keyboards) Bq3 Karn Evil 9 Bq4 Ryuichi Sakamoto

Both of these musicians are highly skilled. Wakeman probably has not strayed as far from his classical roots as Emerson has. Go way back into the early days of the two and see where they parked their interests. The two best solos were Lucky Man and I watched Keith Emerson play Bach's Fugue in D minor from the wrong side of the keyboard once at an ELP concert

Well if I remember correctly I have only heard I lp from Rick Wakeman, Journey to the center of the earth back in the '70s.

I have been a ELP (Carl Palmer) fan since the 1970s and seen ELP 3x in concert, once was the Works World Tour 1977 and once with the late Cozy Powell on Drums.
I'd pick Keith Emersom because I am more filmier with his/their music and from time to time I still play those great ELP CDs.

I like both, who I listen to depends on mood
Wakeman's more surealistic and precice
Emerson tends to be choppy with jazz influences intertwined
I've heard too many great performances out of both over the past 35 years to say

Tough one...they are both phenominal...and the best in their own rights...they are both classically trained pianoists..and provided a flair to their respective bands - multiple key boards, synthisizers, costumes, flying piano's etc...and they both played for 2 of my favorite bands...Yes and ELP...dont know that I can say I prefer one over the other, just depends on my mood and what I am doing at the time...
Emerson Karn Evil #9 is excellent as is most of his work on Tarcus and Works... Wakeman, Journey to the Center of the Earth - EXCELLENT....and all he did with Yes...
Not willing to commit to a favorite solo by either of them as I like all that they did....

1 & 2: Keith Emerson
3: My favorite would have to be the synth solo at the beginning of Karn Evil 9 (if they were all smooshed together)

I'm biased. My moneys on Rick.
I think Rick plays w/ more....elegance & flair. Keith tends to be more aggressive.

Oh man, solo? I love Rick's short one during the quiet part of "South side of the Sky".

How 'bout you, sarah?
