Compassion - almost every religion teaches this.

The story 'The Man Who Planted Trees' is a good allegory of this. There's even a line in the story where the narrator says "it seems like he had found a perfect way to be happy".

Everybody have there own perspective of being happy. There are so many things that make people happy!!! But what really makes you happy? Im not talking about just for a while and then your'e mad some hours later... For me i would say love!!! It is the key 2 my happines it can be confusing from time 2 time but its all worth it. whats better than having some 2 comfort you all the time when u need it someone who knows when you are upset without u even saying it, someone who knows what you are about 2 say b4 u even say it.. someone who just knows you all the way and is there for u when no one else is.. Remember materialistic things can make people happy but 4 how long? Im not saying i dont like those things because i do but its not the key 2 my happiness... When those things run out whos gonna be there in the end 4 u?

There are many recipes for happiness but I do know that the best way to keep a secret is " to tell no one". Everyone is telling everyone how to be happy, so it really isn't a secret concerning the subject.

Perspective. This is the key unlocking all the doors of existence. If your perspective has you always looking to far beyond that which you have or are capable of, then happiness will be forever out of your reach. If you become to burdened by insight into the far less fortunate your happiness will be eclipsed. You must, as in with everything, maintain moderation, striving to achieve the attainable and giving of yourself to truly appreciate how much you have. Good luck and God bless.

Start out by smiling. Even if things seem to be turning to crap - SMILE! Somehow I find that a simple smile makes me, and others I share a smile with, feel better.

After that, treat everyone, including yourself, with kindness, compassion, and respect. As the Golden Rule says, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." It's hard to go wrong with that as your prime directive.
