I don't care about "how tough life would be". Or what I "could not do".

I just want somebody to show me 1 single state or federal law that requires me to have an ID at all.

I am an American, I am free, I am secure in my person and in my papers.

Thanks.

No there isn't a law, unless you are required to have one at work. I liked them because if I found your dead body lying on the side of the road, I would be able to notify your next of kin. Otherwise, you would just be buried as a John Doe.

I agree with you but in New Jersey if your 18, you are required to carry ID. Matt, after 9-11 everything changed dude, It may not be on the books but you are required to have ID on you when asked by law enforcement, if not you have to tell them your info and they will run it thru their system. Go Figure, another example of Big Brother!!

There is a law that you cannot drive without a license.
There is a law or federal regulation that you cannot go on an airplane without ID.

You are not required by law to have ID to just sit around your house all day and not go anywhere.

I'm not sue of the exact statute but YES, anyone over age 18 is required to carry ID at all times. At least in PA, but I believe this is Nationwide. This is not papers, this is just ID. Papers as you refer to as in the former Soviet Union state exactly where you are coming from and wher you are going and if you deviated from this you were in violation of the law.

The amish in my community dont have SS#'s until they get married and need to get paid. Until then they dont have a SS# or a drivers license. There is no law stating you need to have one. The reason they get one is they need to be paid by someone and they need to pay taxes. So if you never recieve money for anything (like a job) then no you dont need one. of course you cant SS benefits either. The amish women that dont work and most only work at home. (Its hard work im sure) but i know for a fact they dont have any ID at all. So it is possible...

There is no law that requires you to have a state issued ID. There are laws about entering certain areas without an official ID, IE airports, train stations, etc.

There is a man in Michigan, so I recall, who argued successfully in court that the right to travel among the several states shall not be encumbered. He used a series of legal precedents to build his culminating argument that it is unconstitutional for states to license a right already granted at the federal level.

Of course, like income taxes and the Federal Reserve banking system, just because something is unconstitutional doesn't make it any less painful, should one choose to defy commonly tolerated practices.

Usually the law that addresses this states something similar to, when requested by law enforcement officials, a person needs to show proof of identification...

In Colorado, for example, it IS considered a crime to fail to supply law enforcement with identification if you are 18 or older...

You need a driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.

You don't need identification if little things like establishing utility service and getting a job are of no consequence to you.
It isn't a law, it is a business practice that requires you to have ID.
You don't have to provide it, but then of course, the utility company, landlords, and employers are not required to deal with you, either.

Sure, if you so chose; you can go through life without an ID at all.

However, if you chose not to have an ID, here are some things you can't do:

-Drive
-Open a bank account
-Cash a check
-Fly
-Ride a train
-Get a job at most places
-Purchase alcohol if you look young
-Go to many bars or other establishments that require you to show your age.
