As you (and everyone who has answered already) know, a stallion is an uncastrated male horse, not a breed of horse. But you said you needed proof to show your friend, so here it is:

Stallion - "an uncastrated male horse : a male horse kept for breeding" http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/stallion

"stallion - uncastrated adult male horse" http://www.thefreedictionary.com/stallion

"stallion, entire, uncastrated adult male horse" http://www.wordreference.com/definition/stallion

Any other dictionary your friend cares to check will say the same thing.

Your right.

A stallion is a horse that has not been gelded (castrated). Usually at a young age, stallions (colts) are gelded if they are not to be used for breeding etc. Ponies and Miniature horses can be stallions too. Every male horse is born a stallion (colt), it is not a breed. A colt isnt considered a stallion until he is over 4 or 5. Same with a filly isnt considered a mare until she is over 4 or 5.

Hope I answered your question!

You are correct. A female horse is a mare. A newborn horse is a foal. A young male horse is a colt, and a young female horse is a filly. A male horse used for breeding is a stud, and a castrated male horse is a gelding. A Stallion is a mature male horse, uncastrated.

You're correct, stallions are a gender, not a breed. A stallion is a male horse that can still reproduce, a male horse that has been sterilized is a gelding, and a female horse is a mare.

I have to admit I used to think stallion is a breed of horse......But it's not!
A stallion is a male horse that hasn't been castrated, like you said. A castrated male is a gelding!
Sort of like saying a cob is a breed of horse....its not, its a type!
