and you went sprawling into the night waters of the atlantic ocean, what would you do?
would you attempt to swim and survive, still thinking you could survive ?

or would you just give up strait away ?

its 12am....the ships just overturned, turning on its side, sending you flying over the side....you are plunged into the open ocean.....darkness all around.....lights from the liner illuminating only a small section of water around you...

is it yikes time ?

or do you try and swim and somehow survive ?

Modern cruise ships has self-detatching self-deploying life rafts for such an incident. Next time you're on a real cruise ship look for those white barel-like canasters next to the big orange life boats. Chances are, some of those would be on the surface. As far as swimming, anyone can tell you that the salt solution in sea water will help keep you boyant without you expending too much energy on your own (that's why scuba divers wear dive belts). If the ship merley capsized, and didn't go under, I'd try to get people coordinated to make an joined effort to get ontop of the belly of the ship (now facing up) and get out of the water.

I'm guessing you recently watched Posidon...-laugh-

I think this is a mind of matter situation. I'm a very good swimmer and a determined person. If I was in this situation, I'd be determined to live and I'd swim until I was found. (Which would happen with all the tracking things on cruise ships these days). I've learned how to siwm for very long periods of time and use little energy. The lack of light wound freak me out but it's a time I'd know I'd need ot keep my head. Another thing I've learned that depending on what type of clothing you're wearing, it's easier to stay above water if you either inflate it or take it off.

Grab onto the nearest floating object, maybe string some debris together and make a small raft to sit on until sunrise... i cant see something that big going down without anyone knowing about it in this day and age, might only spend a few days trapped out at sea, assuming you could stay afloat you'd be fine.

it is natural to survive, and so you should, the cold water will soon lull you into a state of feeling ok, and then you just pass away, the water out there is below 55deg which if you are an execllent swimmer in about 30 mins you loose control and can do no further because your core temp is too low

I was a serious swimmer, I am also a survivor by hook or by crook, so there is no way that I would give up till I was going down for the third time.

Apparently if you go overboard, and just have the clothes you are wearing one technique is to try and inflate them. I don't know how it works exactly, but I would try that. Or I would grab onto the nearest floating object.

I don't know anyone who would give up. You fight for every second of life, no matter if you think it's crappy. I don't swim but I would try very hard.

Swim? No.
Float gently to conserve energy - yes.
Give up immediately? I'd have been dead long ago if I thought like that.

i was told by a clairvoyant that in a previous life when the titanic went down i was on it and i do not remember a thing so its really not worth worrying about this hypothetical situation
