According to http://the-red-thread.net/blood.html , Prince Charles was the first English Royal to give blood. The Prince of Wales' gesture was meant to assure the British public that giving blood was safe in spite of the AIDS epidemic. Prince Charles is incidentally type O (Rh negative).

I don't know but they have a history of haemophelia so I guess nobody would queue for their blood. Anyway its blue isn't it.
