not sure what your asking, some make themselves taste bad others change color, some smell really bad, then there's my teenage son, think he has all of the above covered, but ain't no way I'm finding out how bad he tastes,leaving that to his girl friend! heck maybe that stench works as an attractant

Well, some bugs are poisonous to birds, like certain catapillars that are very brightly colored are poisonous. There are also some interesting insects that can squirt a chemical at their prey or preditor as a defense or attack mechanism. Most of the chemical defenses that are used is a type of poison. Such as snakes having poisonous bites, or some frogs are poisonous.

All of these are a chemical defense.

Chemical defense relates to secretion of chemicals as a means to avoid the enemy or kill it. These chemicals either befuddle the enemy or stun it or repel it.
