All batteries are marked, but sometimes it is hard to see the markings. Look closely on top of the battery near the terminals to see a + and - that tells you which is which. It may be stamped or molded into the plastic.
On a top post battery, the negative (-) terminal is slightly smaller than the positive (+). but with the wires connected it is hard to tell! You could also trace the wires, the positive will go to a power block or solenoid and the negative will go to ground!

When asking car 'questions' is is best to give the make model year and engine size. There should be + or a - by the battery posts. The larger post is the positive and the smaller one the negative. The red wire goes to the positive and the black wire goes to the negative. Good luck

The smaller of the two posts is negative.
It will have a short wire that hooks up to the frame, engine and/or other body parts.
The larger positive post has a long heavy wire that goes directly to the starter.
Some batteries have a + for positive and a - for negative.
Hope this helps.

The positive is not bigger, they are the same size. Look for a + on the battery, that is the positive.
