This past June my family moved into a smaller house once my brother was arrested. I'm 17 now and my favorite time of year is Christmas, but this year my family isn't really talking to each other a lot, I eat dinners alone, and there are very little present to give each other. Worst of all, my mother yelled at me for asking to get a Christmas tree. I've never not had one. What can I do? I feel so lost.

Here's what you do - first, remember Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus. Sit down and pray to God about your situation and ask that he look over you and protect you and then add it whatever personal thoughts you want to say, etc.

Go to Walgreen's or the dollar store and get you a tiny little Christmas tree for YOUR room. Get some miniature lights and set it up next to your bed on your nightstand. Turn it on at night before you go to bed and just sit and look at it and think of everything you are grateful for.

Despite your family's problems (and EVERYBODY's family has problems) - think of what you are grateful for: your health, good grades, pets, clean clothes, food to eat, etc.

Sometimes all you need to do is just get personal with God and do something that pleases you, no matter how small, and just ignore everyone else's issues and problems.

Don't feel lost - re-connect with God and tell him you're feeling alone and that you need him. He'll show up!

Merry Christmas my friend.

The best way to get in the spirit in your situations is to give what you can to your family. That could mean doing something for you mom to take the load off of her (she's probably feeling really stressed) or trying to initiate a family gathering and make cookies together. It can be as simple as letting the people you care about know how you are feeling, and having a good heart to heart with them. I know the holidays can be hard, especially when you are missing a family member. Just try to keep a good attitude and usually the people around you will cheer up as well.

Merry Christmas!

Spend the time typing up all your favorite memories and email them to yourself at an email address you know you'll have for years to come. That'll be a priceless gift to yourself for years to come when you wouldn't remember a lot of the details that you do now.
