What chance that the engine of an Opel/Vauxhall 1.7 diesel will be ok - when the cambelt faiiled at 60mph/90kph?

I should also add that the belt was changed just 5000 miles ago!

possibly ok as long as it broke the rockers that open the valves. remove the rocker cover and check. if they have broke you might get away lucky as they are straigt forward to replace. if you need any more advice hust email me.

You my be lucky,,If your The lucky type

Depends on the year of the engine,Some are fine after cambelt failure

Best thing you can do is to remove the rocker cover and see if there is any apparent damage,i,e Bits of broken metal kicking around,,if all looks ok then try a new cambelt and cross your fingers..

If it's worth fixing the vehicle then a replacement engine would probably work out cheaper than working on the engine you have..

Best of luck

Hate to say this, but on a Diesel engine at that speed, it's probably totalled the engine, count yourself lucky if if the valves haven't knocked holes in a couple of pistons.

Very slim to zero chance its survived. Will likely have broke the cam shaft.

You may get away with replacing the head.

not good the faster you are going at the time the worse the damage to the engine,I'm afraid you are going to need a garage.
