One cable may be red. That will be positive.
One cable may go directly to the chassis or bolt to the side of the engine or a bracket. That will be negative.

The one that is black and goes from the battery to the engine block is the ground. The other is red and goes to a bolt/nut type block or connection. It usually follows down below the car to the starter. Some follow up to a block type box. The black usually is bolted to the engine as aground. Type in your car, year and engine type at autozone.com, or advanceautopart.com. They both show component locations for free. Herb West III, west.herb@yahoo.com www.wen2k.com

Call a tow truck service to get the car to a repair shop or make friends with a mechanic. You don't want to guess at jump starting a car, you may blow fuses, fry an alternator, blow the battery up in your face and get acid in your eyes leaving you blind, etc. Not something for you to mess with, play it safe!

Try to follow the wires from the battery. Which ever one connects to metal (alternator bracket etc.) or something "random" that is metal that one will be your ground aka negative. Hope this helps. Good luck!
