What good do carbon credits do?

Isn't this another way to tax businesses with junk science?

Where does the money go?

Is there seriously anyone who can explain why a business should buy Carbon Credits for any reason other than "good Public Relations?"

Am I wrong or are Carbon Credits worthless?

Further, with India and China the biggest polluters, shouldn't they buy more credits that the U.S.?

My city is allowing a three turbine powered peaker plant to be built next to a new high school. We are in the smoggiest zone in Ca. and the nation. The electricity it generates will not even go into the grid we are on. It will go to Los Angeles. They bought carbon credits from another city but cannot explain how it will decrease the amount of pollution that will be spread over our city. Because it won't but the electric company building it stuffed their campaign coffers. It a scam.

Carbon credits are used as an offsetting measure, or so businesses think.

Image is everything in the corporate world, and no company wants to be accused of being environmentally irresponsible. So they continue business as usual and buy "carbon credits" to make sure some other asshole is planting trees or not driving to offset the damage they are supposedly doing. It is the equivalent of paying for liposuction because you are too much of a lazy bastard to actually eat healthy and excercise.

Of course, all this is a moot point, considering that global warming was invented by Al Gore to bolster his floundering political career.

Its a pointless charade attempting to ward off the organic order. each and every time there's a sparkling style ( and this time it fairly is carbon) anybody starts off to leap on the band waggon and its this and that and in all places. yet comprehend this - it fairly is barely enormous multinational companies at the same time with governments which could make any fairly distinction. a majority of those plant-a-tree persons are dropping their time and ours - speaking approximately it.
