I was reading the Philly Inquirer at halftime of the Eagles (the team that has as many 2 game winning streaks as the Flyers do since November) and a factoid in the "On This Date" zipped me back in time. (There's a guestion at the end here).

On this date in NHL history, Bryan Trottier scored 5 goals and 3 assists in a game vs. the Rangers. I had no love for the Isles back then, but Trots was one of my favorite opposing players. I was just out of high school and about a year away from living and working around the midwest. The Flyers were in a downturn since their halcyon days as NHL champs but I still thought they could interrupt the Habs run of consecutive titles. Don't mean to wax nostalgic on ya' but once in a while, a news item can take me back to a memory that feels like it happened yesterday. Now to the question.

Best Answer goes to the first answerer that can tell us what record Trottier set that night.

This record would be the number of points scored in a single period.

He set the following records
- most points in a game on December 23
- most points in a game by an NY Islander
- most points in a game vs the Rangers
- most points in an NHL game by a Bryan
- most points in an NHL game by a player from Saskatchewan

Oh, and as Lubers stated, he scored 6 points in a period to set that record too (this is just a minor one eh?)
