As a Muslim, I am required to adhere to the five pillars of Islam: praying five times a day, donating money to the poor, making a pilgrimage to Mecca, keeping faith in Allah, and lastly, fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when God revealed the Koran to the Prophet Muhammad. It is considered the most blessed month of the Islamic year. Prayers, charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed during this time, but fasting is most essential. During fasting, Muslims rise before dawn to eat and pray; then they break their fast when the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib, arrives. The following passage documents the difficulties and benefits in a typical day of fasting.

"Ramadan is a religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when God revealed the Koran to the Prophet Muhammad."

To those who know nothing about the subject except what they read in your introduction, this sentence might give the wrong impression. Do Muslims believe that Allah revealed the entire Koran to Muhammad in a single month? Or do they believe in a series of revelations that extended over many years, with the first one occurring during the month in which Ramadan is now celebrated?

"During fasting, Muslims rise before dawn to eat and pray; then they break their fast when the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib, arrives."

You should probably specify that the daily fast ends at sundown. Some of your readers won't know what "Maghrib" means.

Ramadan is the highest of all muslim holy seasons.
Food and drink, as well as smoking and sex are forbidden, but only during daylight hours.
During ramadan, the believer must not commit any unworthy act, if he does, his fasting is pointless.
