We've been classified as lazy, fat, stupid, stubborn, racist, hicks, everything else in the planet. Why do people hate the US so much? I'm raised in a European family who loves and embraces the American culture. I am not overweight, stupid, racist, and my stubborness is that of an average teenager. I've lived in Europe and America, and I love both societies. Why does the rest of the world choose to hate us so much and decide to hate the American people as well as the country?

Sometimes, I can understand. We're a fast-paced, commercial society that's one of the most powerful in the world. Our foreign policy is frankly ridiculous, and the current government has made some MAJOR mistakes. But is that justification for hating all of the American PEOPLE?

Comments from anybody? I'd like to hear from people from around the world. And please keep it clean and intellectual. I don't want any comments that just spread hate. Back up your arguments with reasoning.

True, our government and media probably don't help our overall image.

And jealousy? It's possible. The United States did become a powerhouse country in a short amount of time.

Oh, and just for the record the majority of Americans (including myself...) are fed up with President Bush. I believe his current approval ratings are under 30%.

For the most part, I think people judge America but what they see on TV, or by the way our current government tries to police the world. We are just like any other country; we have all kinds of different people with different lifestyles. It just so happens that we are a melting pot for all cultures, so we have the most diverse society, therefore giving us more of a chance of having more "bad" people than other places.

I live in Australia and on the TV we are bombarded with stories about Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and now Jamie Lynn Spears, unfortunately I think people around the world imagine that all Americans are as shallow and attention grabbing as these so called celebrities. Also having Bush as your president doesn't help!!
It is not jealousy, at least certainly not from my point of view, there's no where better to live than Oz.

Because they can and get away with it. Mostly people in other countrys look at us on how the TV make us look. When they show little bit of people in america, they think everyone is like that in America and it is stupid. There are people like how you said it on the top everywhere in the world and we are just known for it for how pictures and tv shows very little people.

They dont know Americans as all they know is what the media potrays. Not all of America is what you see on TV and most people are smart enough to know better. And I dont know if I would call it jealousy but they are envious of the American lifestyle or at least what they think it is.

I was born in Europe too and moved to U.S later. I love the American way of life and the reason everyone hates U.S. is pure jealousy. That's right, they are just jelous that U.S. became the most powerful country in the world in less than 300 years.
Other hatred comes from all the wars U.S. promotes but it's politics, if other country was more powerful, it would promote war too.
