Men are not always running things. Its the womens' choice to do it. How is it degrading them? It's not like sex is something most women don't have during their whole life.Just like on shows people kiss. Why isn't kissing degrading to women. People have sex too. That's why some late night shows show intimacy to that extent.

Because there is an underlying cultural/social assumption that men and women are not equal when it comes to sex. Women are assumed to be weak, vulnerable and taken advantage of, even if they voluntarily participate, enjoy the act and have multiple orgasms. It's assumed that men are the sole beneficiaries of sex.

This will continue, unless our culture changes and people realize that men and women are adults who choose to get involved in the act and that women enjoy sex as much, if not more. Or in this case chose to be involved in the act for money. Women also need to get out of the victim mentality, truly own their body, and not use sex as a bargaining or power tool. Or if they choose to use it as a tool, not complain when they don't get the desired outcome.

Most people who watch porn are men. There's lots of women who watch porn, but there's way more men who watch it, and so the pornos generally cater to what men find sexy. You'd have to find some porn that caters more to female viewers to enjoy it more. For example, lots of lesbian porn looks terrible to lesbians because the women they use in those videos don't have sex the way real lesbians do. They don't kiss and touch the way real lesbians do, and it's not sexy to the lesbians who see it. Guys love it because the filmmakers created it to appeal to a male audience. I am a feminist and I have nothing against porn. But I know when porn is made for certain target audiences and what isn't convincing enough as true lesbian porn. There's not too much porn that degrades men because not too many of them want to see other men degraded.
Also, most of those sex chat lines let women talk for FREE while the men must pay. The reason being, most customers who really want this stuff are men and they are willing to pay for sex, whether it's phone sex, chat lines, personals, videos, webcams....

PS - Gay porn is NOT degrading to men. Any guy who thinks so is a closet case.

There's a difference between sensuality, sexuality and porn. I don't think displaying sensuality or displaying sexuality is degrading to either gender. But I do find it uncomfortable to watch porn. Why? I feel embarrassed for both the men and women who are are willing to act such ridiculous and often demeaning roles, just like I'm embarrassed by men and women who demean themselves in shows that are suppose to be "funny". When someone is performing their job, I can't help but think about how I would feel doing it. I've been a minimum wage worker and would do it again. I've seen porn in magazines and seen movies, and had a hard time looking at it or sitting through it. Not only did it not turn me on, it was so fake it was laughable, if it wasn't violent or sadistic. I'm bi, so you'd think I'd find porn more interesting than the average het, but it's not a turn on to me watching women act like subservient sex-crazed idiots, anymore than it is to watch men act that way. Intellectually I can understand why men and women do porn, otherwise, I don't get it.

Lioness I believe put it best.

No men aren't always running things, but when it comes to sex and women enjoying the act it becomes a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

Women are still made to feel as though the act is sacred and not meant for our pleasure, but that of the man. So women enjoying it are called sluts and other derogatory terms, because in a sense they are being used simply for pleasure and nothing more.

See how much fun you can take out of it when you think about it too much? Just enjoy it and let's drop the labels and such, eh?

I you take the question literally its quite interesting. In most mainstream pornos I've seen the women look like stars and the men look like idiots. The women look like the ones in control.

But the industry has extremes, and there are definitely segments that are based on degrading acts against women.

Calling a video degrading just because a woman strips off and has sex, that relies on the underlying idea that women's sexuality is in some way sacred. The trouble is that denies women control and expression of their own sexuality. You could even see it as a patriarchal control mechanism.

Tyshawn F, there is also a porn market for the degradation of men by women. And not all porn shows women being degraded.

It is degrading to men if there are men who feel degraded by it - I don't see how you could possibly know. And a lot of women like porn.
And it is unusual (as far as I am aware) to see men submitting in the way that women do regularly - that kind of thind does not happen to men outside of s/m porn where the man is submissive. Mainstream porn seeks to maintain the status quo - reminds us of our place in society.

porn has been primarily marketed to men so it doensn't necessarily show a gender-neutral stance.

to me, c@m shots are degrading, calling women s!uts & so forth is highly offensive, the use of violence and allowance of drug use is offensive, and the the lack of condom use is incredulous (sorry i'm a health professional).

i am not against porn that is respectful and used in sexual health. -- but i tend to think that is not too common.

Most porn is consumed by men. It ranges from fairly soft porn which is not necessarily degrading, to hardcore. There is a market for the degrading content of some porn.

Most women don't like or view porn and those who do tend to prefer the softer porn, which is less likely to be degrading.
