these r among the following religions around the world - hinduism buddhism, judaism, jainism, ancestral worship, paganism, shintoism, christianity [thousands of sects], islam [thousands of sects], sikhism, bahai faith.
we should all investigate them and seek which is most closest to our wish that religion be a source of unity and peace and to be able to promulgate a new world order.
if any religion were to teach their disciples that there is only one way and that their way is the only way to god, we have to think thoroughly of such claims. why this one and not this one. so we have to find one that doesnt divide and promotes unity through service to humanity and that work is indeed worship.
in fact religion dont want blind faith but the clergy wants it to ensure obedience and that their coffers are filled. among the religions above i find the bahai faith interesting - it doesnt have a clergy - incumbent upon all adherents to investigate the truth. another is the innovative new world order - a new political / economic system.
a book we are reading is prof john hatcher's - the arc of ascent - it says how religions should be. hence under its so called 'religious definition' a number of the present religion does not qualify to be 'religion'.

First of all, look at it this way. Buddhists and other religions are serving non-living gods. Christianity is the only religion with a true and living God. As for discerning between JW's, Methodists, Baptists, etc...you're gonna have to read the Bible and determine that yourself. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but rather have eternal life. Basement cat: How can you say everyone is correct? There is no such thing as absolute truth. How can one person be right and the other person wrong. When I say 2+2 is 4. It's 4! Just because my 5 year old nephew says the answer is 5 doesn't make us both correct! There has to be a right and wrong answer!

Ask yourself this, How come in all the different countries and contenants of the world, does religion exist? There must be a very fundemental principal that links them all, and thats what i believe. I do NOT believe in a religion at all, because they are all emcumbered with nonsense and ritual that is so redundant, and harmful to the followers. Much better to make an opinion based on the knowledge that one recieves from multipul sources. At this time, there is no hard evidence that a god exists. However i believe that we are all linked, and that the meaning of live is experience. If you are the one and only all seeing and "all", how boring?! Much better to split yourself into self contained beings, and put them into an area with rules and laws that govern how things happen. That way you can absorb things from a new perspective, and learn and grow. Religions focus too much on stories, rules, and oh "dont forget to donate", you would think god could handle money, or even mint a special currency for the true religion! Give me a break. Religion is one of the biggest forms of mass manipulation and contraining creations ever devised. They took a basic idea, and soured it with nonsense, to make money and keep people in a box of thinking that they like.

If you looked at the religions as being sets of statements and allowing those sets that are common to religions as not being lies, you would come to a different conclusion. It is your Yes/No criteria that leads you to your conclusion. Since religion does require belief rather than a track record, how can you conclude there isn't real proof or even that a religion has to bat 1000? If you are looking for a religion with a track record, try Judiasm, but given your sceptism, don't tell me if you do.

it's not exactly "blind faith" i follow the religion i do because of evidence i have found that are enough to make me believe that it's true, and because of first hand experiences related to it. I'm not saying that every other single religion is wrong- not by any means- i like to take a good look at what they stand for before deciding that. Which kinda makes me one of those people you see standing at the Eckencar booth or whatever at the state fair asking them what they're about (that being one of the religions i have decided is wrong- all they did was try to sell me stuff, and essentially you have to buy this and this and this and give a bunch of money before you can be happy).
so basically the only way you can decide if a religion is wrong or right is by looking at its basic motives and practices. this also means NEVER taking into consideration the few crazy people that occur in every religion ( muslim terrorists, christian extremeists, etc) because they do not represent the religion as a whole.
it also means keeping definitions of certain things in mind. remember that the concept of God is by definition, indefinable. So it's impossible to ever prove or disprove the existance of a God, only to give strong evidence either way. just like I could never prove 100% for sure that...for instance...your computer exists. there's extremely strong evidence that it does, and therefore I believe that it does, but it's not totally and completely proven. which brings up crazy philosophical stuff of 'does anything exist?'
but i'm guessing you're not really wanting to go that complicated or deeply.
but a tip, especially if you're checking out major religions like christianity and islam and judaism, etc, keep in mind that different denominations and different places will all practice differently and can be more or less genuine. so don't scratch out christianity because you went to a Catholic church and people weren't very open or genuine (I'm not saying Catholics are that way, I"m just pulling out random examples). try a different place. try a bunch of different places.
life itself is one big exploration.

Man has a tendencies to indicates what appears in in own eyes is right. This was the Basic reason why Our Creator first destroyed the original civilization by means of drowing.
The word "Religion " comes from the Latin language meaning" tie with God ".
Unforfunately Man having the need for an explanation of Life makes his own philosophy which appear right in his own eyes and negating the Commandments of our Creator.
Our Heavenly Father Provided a way out for all Humans regardless of Nationality or Origin by offering Salvation in Yeshuah Ha Meshiah(Jesus the Christ ) That whosoever believes in Him has eternal life.
Now this is Faith. And there is a difference between Faith and philosophical religions which appear right in man's eye.
But the Salvation which is in Christ Jesus is Real. And all those who have experienced it have a real relationship With God our Creator.
This is where Salvation and Religion meet.

Lmfao. You know what, I agree with the other person that answered. You should believe in what you feel comfortable with and not have to explain to other people why or whatever.
I get the idea that this is more of a rhetorical question, though.
Challenging why people believe in their certain religions.
Honestly, I have no religion either and it doesn't bother me anymore. I'm an atheist and I can decide for myself what it means. I have ethics and morals and I believe in humanity. Unless there's another far more advanced species that will take over.
I'm not saying that God/Allah isn't real.
I'm only saying I highly doubt it exists.
But who really knows?
And who's willing to believe? n_n
Most importantly, why?
Hope?

Religion is all around us. It's just confusing because very one believes in the one God, but they have different ways of talking about it.
Each has to have away of being different than the other, or they wouldn't be able to be called " Christian, Baptist, Catholic, etc...
It is what is in your heart, and your beliefs, that you need to count on. God is in your heart no matter where you are, what your doing, and he tries to guide you into the right direction. It is up to you, on whether you follow that path.

Living memory by Bill Brewer. Christians have run amok in every major city, looting, burning and murdering in the name of Jesus. Then I'll agree that Christian fundamentalists are just as scary and dangerous as their Muslim counterparts." Christian fundamentalists don't have to do that. By means of polite violence they have condemned millions of AIDS sufferers to dealth and forced millions of women to deliver unwanted babies. They are willing to expose millions of young people to sexually transmitted diseases without benefit of new vaccines. They are passing laws to impose their views of morality on thise of us who do not share those views. Due to the insistence of fundamentalist Christians that the war on drugs be punitive rather than corrective, that "war" has forced more misery on the U.S. and it's citizens than the drugs themselves could ever have done. And the results of fundamentalist interference in U.S. educational systems have set our citizens behind third world countries' in the ability to think clearly. Christians current political influence lets them practice tyranny via legal methods, but a fundamentalist is still a fundamentalist.
Christians enjoy a level of political power in the U.S. unrivaled by any other group. Part of the privilege of being dominant political force is that you don't need to stage violent protests to receive apologies for an offense. Ask any kid who has had to transfer schools for being a "fag." Ask the families of doctors who were murdered for performing abortions, what about the abortion clinic bombings, scare tactics, and other illegal measures Christians are happy to forget their own trespasses to condemn those of another faith. The day hate crimes with religious motives are addressed with punitive justice equal to that of other hate crimes, you can suggest that fundamentalists from various religions are different from one another. But in the meantime, fundamentalism is as fundamentalism goes.
Maybe we can begin by giving those prisoners in Guantanamo a fair trial, just as we did for abortion clinic bombers.
I think the correlation is phenomenal. While claiming to be Christians, conservatives support war in Iraq, torture of non-Americans, breeches of the Constitution by the current administration and vengeance against the 9/11 attackers. Doesn't the Bible quote Jesus Christ as saying, "Love your enemy." "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." "Turn the other cheek," and most notably, the greatest commandment, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself.?"
Does the Bible not elsewhere tell us "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord?" Does that not mean God, and only God, is the one to take action against those who harm us? Have they missed the section of the Bible in which Jesus says, "He who is without sin may throw the first stone"? I won't even get into the death penalty, immigration laws, equality in education and the rest.
How can Christians support anything Republicans stand for?
