I think they make cute nick names, like Nikki for Nicolette and Katie for Katherine or Katerina -- I wouldn't like just Nikki or Katie for full first names though.
Edit: Again, I think of Nikki as being more a nick name. So, as pretty as Nikki-Lea sounds, I would personally go for Nicole-Lea or Nicolette-Lea as the full name and as a nick name it could be "Nikki"-Lea.

Katie= it's ok, but it sounds more like a nickname for Katherine or Katelyn
Nikki-Lea=No. I hate Nikki, and I don't like the spelling of Lea. I don't like the name hyphenated either.

I like the name Nikkiand Nikki-Lea I know a girl called Nikki-Leigh its just spelt different Im not to keen on Katie it seems an older name to me I.e my Aunt or someting.

i have friends named Nikki and Katie.!
the ones named nikki,
there real names are Dominique, Nicole, and Nikkolette.
and of course Katie is Kaitlyn.
