...there's no particular name for them, per say; the animation process was called 'dynamation', and they were released through the film production company called Rankin/Bass, who has specialized in stop motion puppet animations, as well as regular cartoon-type of animations since the mid-sixties. Their classic animated holiday T.V. specials include such noteworthy titles as:

"Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
"Frosty the Snowman"
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town"
"Rudolph's Shiny New Year"
"The Little Drummer Boy"
"The Year Without a Santa Claus"
"Here Comes Peter Cottontail"
"The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town"

...a couple of noteworthy feature films, which Rankin/Bass produced, include:

"The Daydreamer"
"Mad Monster Party?"

I believe they are puppet like models similar to claymation only better. The titles are...
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy, and Santa Clause is coming to town.
They were separate movies but you can purchase them in a bundle at Wal Mart.
