In the sense that "Cassanova" has come to mean a seductive male, I'm looking for a word of similar origin that means something along the lines of a social climber, somebody who will do anything to get ahead, kind of a Machiavellian character. Manipulative, etc.
It starts with "S" and I'm pretty sure it comes from a character's name in a play or book.

No, it's definitely a character name, so it's capitalized and I know it's pretty long, like three or four syllables.
