Will she live as long as her mum, or reign as long as Victoria? Will Charles be elderly when he gets the throne, and become one of the shortest reigning monarchs ever?

Will we rightly use the glorious opportunity to ELECT a commoner for our first president when she shuffles off this mortal coil?

BEC, SAXMAN - people who really love England would want a commoner for head of state, one of us, elected by us (and it needn't be a political/executive presidency like in the US) Royalists are therefore unpatriotic by definition.

I have yet to hear any convincing evidence that the people "want" or "support" the monarchy. Most people I hear find it difficult to define what worthwhile task they actually perform. I suppose support for them could be regional.

She has five years to go to beat George III and eight to beat Victoria to be the longest reigning monarch. She's currently third. If she does it, she'll be 90.

Charles' reign has always been expected to be a short one, because of the longevity of the female Windsors(The Queen Mother, the present Queen's mother lived to be 101 years old, and Princess Alice was 102 when she died).
And,no,I don't think that you will have a president when she dies. It's been reported that the monarchy still has support among the majority of the people.

Her mother lasted until age 100, so she could certainly be around a while longer.
