Could this possibly come from the African Union? Several leaders of African countries have expressed open desire to form one single federated Nation. BTW I think this would be great news for Africa, especially in the long run.

Most likely it will happen when one of the African nations becomes a powerful economic engine with a stable government and a strong military. The other nations will see this and want to follow suit as well as to establish strong trade relations with them.
There has been for a long time a movement to unite African countries and there has been some progress. But the best hope to lead this effort,Nigeria, has a lot of internal problems. I pray that Nigeria will reach ikts very real potential and become a leader in this regard. \
The only real hope for Africa as a whole is for Africans to realize that while their languages cultures and religions may differ, their destinies are interconnected. European and sometimes Asian powers have been exploiting Africa and her people for years . This has been done both by conquest and by economic/ manipulation such as tariffs,, bribes to corru[pt leaders etc.

Until Africans come together and come up with solutions to the problems that they ALL face and do so through groups like the AU it will continue to be the victim instead of the victor .

I hope it all works out for the good of Africa and her people.

PEACE

Most likely. But in many years from now.
It seems the ultimate goal of the African Union is full political and economic integration leading to the United States of Africa. Some of us Africans agree with this goal.
I find myself open, but skeptical to this idea.

At the instance of the Chairman of the Committee of Seven, a broad-based conference was held in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2005, under the theme “Desirability of a Union Government in Africa.” It was attended by a wide spectrum of participants including members of the Committee of Seven, the academia, technical experts, representatives of the African Diaspora, Civil Society Organisations as well as executives of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and media practitioners from different parts of Africa,
The conference concluded that:

a) the “necessity for Union Government is not in doubt”;
b) it must be a “Union of the African people and not merely a Union of states and governments”;
c) its formation must be “based on a multi-layered approach” and on the principle of "gradual incrementalism”;
d) the role of the RECs should be highlighted as building blocks for the continental framework.

But we should keep in mind that it's just still only in ongoing debate. All it is talk, talk and more talk.

After the AU reaches a decision ( some years from now yet )
I'm afraid there will be trouble. Especially if they are in agreement to try and pull off the new 'United States of Africa'.

I think we could compare it to trying to make all South and North America unto the same union or all of Asia.
Yes, in the long run it might be as good choice.
But it will be an extremely difficult to achieve. -
To say the least.

The native population of Africa exhibits greater genetic variation than that of populations in any other continent.
It's home to many different groups of people with each their own established culture and history.

Some will not take kindly to the idea of trying to lump them together with other cultures that are very different from their own and that also think their way is 'the best way.'

I personally feel that this will never happen. It is sad but many of the governments of Africa are crooked. They exploit their people, wage senseless wars and stand by whiles millions of their children die everyday. I would hate to through your question off course but I hate to see how the world stands by and watches this. You would think that after some many nations have help contribute to the rape of Africa in the days of colonialism and imperialism that one would stand and help. But no one does. This whole African Union idea sounds good but their is no way this ravaged continent can ever unite until some questions are answered

GOD BLESS

They still war each other over there. The hate is too deep for any USAfrica to form in the near future, and international corporations wouldn't allow it to happen. It's in their best interest that Africa remain a sleeping giant. With all their natural resources we'll still be selling them water, that's how screwed they are. No way they'll wake up to this, all other regions will continue to manipulate their politics to keep them from autonomy.

Possibly, if they can learn to put aside their differences. I don't think anyone would have guessed in 1857 that a hundred years later the beginings of the EU would be born, Europe was mostly still a lot of small squabbling nations then.

Not while there are blacks, and/or Muslims in Africa. Such stick together less than did the Native American tribes, and they fight with each other more than with America, Britain, and Israel, combined. For every one which wants unity, 10,000 others want to be King of all, with no room for those of any other: race, tribe, faith, etc. To white racists all blacks are the same sort of N****rs. To blacks the Watusis are one race, the Zulu are another race, the Bantu are another race, etc, and they all hate each other seperately as much as the KKK hates them all together. Likewise, to Muslims, the Sunni are a different faith than the Shiite, etc, etc, and they want to wipe each other out more than they want to destroy America/Israel. Such lunatics do NOT join together well enough, for long enough, to achieve anything like unifying a continent.

It might be a good idea, if the British administer it. First, they would have to give cricket uniforms to all of the thousands of child soldiers and take their guns away. Next, they'd have to do something about all those flies. DTD works pretty well, and is not harmful to humans, contrary to politically correct popular belief. Then there's those mud huts.
