Have a look in the classified advertisements in The Age, Melbourne's newspaper, particularly on a Saturday

Apartments are usually called flats or units in Australia. The usual minimum lease for a flat is six months but if you are going to be here for a shorter period, you will have to negotiate with the agent. Normally, short period leases are for furnished flats and cost more.
