I hit 6O (sssshhh) in July this year, and apart from thinking to myself, I still cannot make my mind up what I want to be when I grow up, yet !!!!
I found it quite mind blowing, when the BUS PASS dropped through on the the mat !
Anyway, I am very lucky to have an 84 year old mum, bless her hear, whom I still look to for approval, and know she worries if I do not wear a hat in the cold weather, bless her heart, so while I still have her, I shall be the eternal child.
Each day is an adventure, I love to try anything new, well ALMOST anything new, and plane to become eccentric - despite my kids say I already am.
Happy Christmas x.

I honestly don't think the word 'old' carries much meaning. By your definition most of the population over 20 qualifies.
Maybe old is just when the vehicle begins reminding us of running a motorcycle into a tree or getting bucked from a horse 40 years ago.

OH! I DO so agree with you! It's a mental attitude! I may not be able to do everything I did when I was younger, but that doesn't mean I can't be INTERESTED.
When we forget to celebrate the child within with all its open mindedness and willingness to explore, we are, indeed, OLD.
I hate to say this, but several men I have dated in this past 8-10 years who were my peers in age, were like this. 'Been there, done that" type of people and wanting to spend the rest of their lives veggin on the couch.
NOT my cup o' tea, so to speak.
Experiencing new things, opening myself to new sounds, ideas etc. is what keeps me interested in life and people and in living.
I REFUSE to go outta here being a sourpuss! LOL

Closing your mind to ideas and experiences is not a definition of ''old''. Closing your mind is just being close-minded. Old is a physical happening, not an emotional or spiritual one.

Well, there's two kinds of old: Physically old, and mentally old.
If you close your mind to new ideas and experiences, you can become old. (That is the quintessential definition of an "Olde Phart".
If your body has arthritis for instance, you can be 25 years old mentally, but it is very frustrating to not be able to physically do the things your mind wants to do.

I think old takes place when others are allowed to steer your boat for you. When you no longer have a say as to when to trim your sails and when its best to ride the storm instead of fleeing for the nearest port.
Old is when you are told its medication(s) time.
Old takes place when you realize you have lost the battle and now you are stuck waiting for you appointment with the grim reaper, but then again you look forward to that date.

It's when you can no longer take care of yourself. I close my mind to new ideas and experiences lots of times..and I don't consider myself old..just stubborn.

I must be old, cuz i don't need to know anymore. Got no use for it at 83. Just kidding. I get to learn new things everyday. Not always what i want to learn, either.

When I no longer care to go on, have no interest in life.....oh crap,....that's depression. Gee, I don't know. I look at myself in the mirror and think "who the hell is that?". I don't feel old and you have raised a good question. With me, I'll probably feel old when I'm dead.

I just wish my physical self could feel as young as my mental self. My search for knowledge has never left and when and if it does, that is the time I will realize I am old.
