I'm betting you're meaning an accent mark, and not an apostrophe. Assuming you're using a PC (DOS/Windows computer, you hold down the ALT button and type in the appropriate 3-digit ASCII character using the numeric keypad. Let go of ALT, and the accented letter appears.

For example, ALT+160 = á

This should work in any Windows word processor, text editor, browser or email client.

1. For any of the following, make sure your keyboard is in Num Lock mode.
2. Hold down the ALT key and enter, on the numeric keypad:

for ñ 164
for Ñ 165
for á 160
for í 161
for ó 162
for ú 163
for ¿ 168
for ¡ 173

Hope that helps.

You have to hold the ALT key, and enter a 3 digit (or 4 digit) numeric code in order to make the special character. For example if you want that ' symbol over the "a" like in Spanish, you press and hold ALT + 160, thus giving you " á ".

There is a complete list of codes and such at http://www.starr.net/is/type/altnum.htm
Or better yet, here is a complete list of codes in their respective languages. Have Fun !!!

For the "eñe" (pronounced "enye", were both "e" are pronounced something like the first "e" of "everyday" and "ny" as in "canyon"):
Ñ alt + 165 or alt + 0209
ñ alt + 164 or alt + 0241

And finally, for "ü":
ü alt + 0252
Ü alt + 0220

I'm using a laptop and writing those letters with the first code was a disaster, so I recommend you to use the second code, with wich I had no problem (If theres no second code, then it works great). The only letter with wich I'm having problems its ñ. Good luck with that!

Go to All Programs -> Accessories -> Character Map. It will give you a list of all characters that every font supports, as well as the Alt+ key combination for that character. You can also copy and paste a character from there.
