I'm not pregnant, but my friend Avery Jane's parents are. It's a boy, and they're considering the name Addison James.
Addison means "son of Adam" and I think it's really cute because Avery's dad's name is Adam.
The other name they were considering was Madison James. Madison means "Son of Maud" and it really fits since Avery's mom's name is Maud.
I've always hated the names Madison and Addison for girls because they sound of masculine, and the meaning of those names just says it all. I prefer Addison James and I think it goes really well with Avery Jane.
So, WDYT?

Actually, Madison and Addison were both originally boy names. Otherwise the meanings would be "Daugther of Maud" and "Daugther of Adam", correct?

I love Addison on a boy! I really hate Addison and Madison on girls, too, for the exact same reason!
I'm not sure I like Avery and Addison for siblings, though. They're too close for my tastes, but not bad at all. I'll bet people are going to knock them for using a boy's name for Avery (I love Avery Jane, BTW. It's on my short list of names.) and a 'girl's name for Addison. Not a huge deal to me.

It's true that names like Madison and Addison are meant for boys (the -son always means 'son of' lol), but it's just way, way too rooted as a girl's name in most people's minds, mostly because of their extreme popularity. Only the very name-conscious would ever think of it for a boy lol. Naming their son Madison/Addison could go either way - he might get teased over it if there are enough Madison's or Addison's in his class that are girls, or people might not even notice if there aren't any (like a guy I know named Madison right now - I never even think of it as a girl's name, because I actually don't know any female ones personally). But because of the names' spots in the top ten, I doubt there aren't going to be at least one or two Madison and Addison's in his class.
I love the middle name James though. Good choice =D.
But I don't think I'd go for the whole same initial thing. Believe me, all my siblings share J names, and that's annoying enough lol. So I think all A names are out, as well as all B names (I don't think they want to get stuck in an alphabetic naming tradition - they'd probably feel obliged to keep it going if they have another kid, etc).
What about Madsen James, Maddox James (Max), Max James, Michael James, or Martin James instead? Avery Jane is a really pretty name, and I think these would all go well with it. Think of what they'd sound like together - Avery and Addison is a bit too rhyme-y, but Avery and Max, Avery and Mikey, or Avery and Martin would be great.
Good luck and congrats to your friend!!

I think they sound like girl names even though the meanings may say that i don't know any guys named Madison but i do know an old man named Addison.
I love the name Addison, that is what my sister named her daughter.
Addison James sounds better.

I'm not a fan on Addison nor Madison for either sex, but the meaning is definitely a plus. Maybe James Madison?
Because if you put the Madison as the first name, people will constantly pick on him and with Madison as the middle name, it can be for the mom and James can be for the dad since he's a boy....

Personally I think Addison is VERY soft for a boys name, and for short he'd be called Addi. That seems very feminine to me.
