White Elephants are unique and rare. The present is only given to one person, but everyone fights over it, like people want the rare White Elephants. That's the fun of it. My family and I play this game, and it is a blast at Christmastime. We play on Christmas morning right after we open up our presents.

Hope this has helped you!

I know that when stores have "white elephant" sales it is too get rid of all of the old and out of season stuff which has piled up. This might be where it got its name from, that the gifts are supposed to be cheap and maybe something the person wouldn't normally want to have, a throwaway item or something you don't usually see.

I think the term "white elephant" just means something that is odd, as in "odds and ends."

probably just because white elephants are special. you only give one gift to one person. and one white elephant is better than a hundred gray ones.
