I have heard and seen that there are some people who, when faced with a painful memory or a situation that reminds them of a painful memory, they act like small, frightened animals.

Their responses include, but are not limited to:
- Running away or trying to run away
- Going quiet
- Whimpering
- Shaking
- Trying to find somewhere to hide

What happens that, for them, this is the response they give?

When faced with fear, we all have what is called the "Fight or Flight" response. Depending on our previous experiences in dealing and handling a similiar situation...we will fight to stand up for ourselves, or flight to do anything to get away from it. The shaking and whimpering you describe involves a deep set anxiety and can be treated. Most times these people will have had a traumatic event that is being re-triggered. Councelling helps wonders to get this fear out of themselves so they may learn to cope more effectively.

Anytime you are afraid, you panic! It's a natural reaction to do these things. It's a defense mechanism. Some people also curl up into small balls, like a fetal position... but, usually those are the ones in a "home".

There is a part of the physic that has been damaged. When faced with that which has frightened us, we tend to withdraw in to that child like state. The only way to suppress such feelings, is to face our fears and beat them. There is hope. Happy holidays to you.

It has been my strong belief that children run away when they are scared and adults fight when they are scared. I don't know when this transition starts. this is the flight or fight principal. Some people get so sick and tired of fighting over stupid things they that they run away from Any thing.

The people who pick on frightened little animal are frightened little people. I really dislike those who pick on the defendless animals or people. Some people need to stand up.
