I know exactly how you feel. This might help a bit: I've had both male and female doctors and so far the males are more gentle. I think they are really unsure of how it feels so they are more careful and considerate. The women know it doesn't hurt that much and ain't gonna kill ya so they dig right in LOL
I'm exaggerating...it isn't that bad. My favorite doctor has been a woman. When the time comes for you to go, you can request a female doctor if you want. Find a place that has them and ask for one specifically. A lot of practices are sensitive to the fact that women prefer women and are used to the request. :-)

You can call and request a female Dr.
I've been to both male and female Dr's but I am more comfortable with a female Dr. So when you start calling to make an appointment just let the receptionist know you prefer a female Dr.

You don't even *have* to go to a gynecologist, just because you turned into a woman. But if you ever choose to go, you can always chose the gender of the practioner. If you go to a certain hospital where you don't even know which doctors work there, you have all the right to still refuse. It's better to talk to one of these doctors first, before you would allow yourself to be examined like that, because why would you allow this by just 'anyone' who is available? Remember it is YOUR body, so you decide what happens to it and what not and by whom.

I was absolutely terrified of teh gyne. I was afraid from the time i knew I'd have to go one day. And...my apt was w/ a guy also! But really it's not that bad & it is over before you know it. You can have a nurse present if you want, it's your right & she can talk to you so you won't even notice what he's doing. It did hurt though...

I much prefer male gynecologists. But you can just make an appointment with a female gyno if you prefer. There's plenty of them.
