I star afterwards. If I starred beforehand I could get into the middle of an answer and realize that it's not a question that I've got a decent answer to and there I am, stuck giving a star to a question I don't like so much. By giving stars afterwards, it's as if I've vetted the question and indicated that I think others should consider answering it too.

I Star all questions from contacts and as many as I can of the others that I answer, so I have made it a habit to Star before answering so that I won't forget!!

I have been known to both. I always used to star after answering....and I will star this one in a moment....but sometimes, I do star before answering.
