With modern particle physics science seems to get closer and closer to metaphysics. Some of the discoveries in particle physics seem to be magic.

Science is usually described as the study of the natural world. Spritualism deals with the super-natural and therefore is not science.

Science depends upon knowledge -- fact and reasoning. Spiritualism depends upon belief -- a choice of accepting something as truth without proof or understanding.

The two do not depend upon the other. Science predicts blackholes -- theories, observation, etc. They exist whether or not you choose to belief in blackholes or not. On the flip side, many young kids believe in Santa. They do so whether or not Santa actually exists.

The conflicts come when one starts making predictions or draws conclusions on the other. If you explain to a kid about the speed of light, gravity, reindeer, etc. and state that 'Santa can not exist.'. Well, that might be true, but then again perhaps Santa's reindeer are magical and he can time travel? Or when kids believing in Santa start making conclusions about science -- that time travel is possible because Santa does it.

If you look into the history of science and spiritualism, they certainly overlapped for a long time. However, today, science is pretty specific and excludes supernatural cause arguments.

Science is an understanding of matter, whereas spiritualism is related to the consciousness of the soul. Usually we analyse them as separate entities, whereas in reality, they are indeed inter-dependent and inalienable parts of each other. Ultimately, the confluence of scientific knowledge and spitirtualism will lead to the holistic development of mankind,” he said.

He also expressed concern that the negative connotations of religion and spirituality as opposed to the cogent logic of science, had led to the alienation of youth. “This is a regressive trend, as the youth are not only unable to inculcate and imbibe virtues from spiritual discourses, but are trivialising science as an instrument to gain material wealth.

“We need to bring about a paradigm shift, whereby spiritualism is more contemporary and intrinsically linked with science, and not plagued by orthodox definitions that are incomprehensible to the present day youth,” he stressed.

Governor Vishnukant Shastri however, expressed his reservations at the links saying that a fine line divided the two. “Progress in technology has made an extension of our senses possible. What our eyes could see in an entire lifetime, is now extended with the use of television and computers, broadening our vision. Similarly, the limited use of our ears has been stretched beyond imagination for the unlimited assimilation of information thorough cell phones,” he said.

He however felt that acquiring more possessions, which gifts of technology, have not led to a corresponding increase in happiness and satisfaction. Science does not teach us how to feel or experience love, pain and sorrow, he pointed out.
Science devoid of Humanism is 'faceless science', like Modern Medicine is 'pseudo science'.
Science without discretion and discernment becomes decadent. Scientists should also be poets
at heart because like the Marathi saying goes – Je na dekhe Ravi, te dekhe Kavi. That which
the Sun cannot see, the Poet sees. That means we need to look at the whole rather than a part.

Science should be safe. If scientists lose their conscience and conspire with criminals,
soon we will have Humanzee (a chimpanzee with human brain) amongst us, due to
experiments called Chimeras. A Humanzee may be able to speak and dress like a human being,
but will jump on the trees if he sees a female mate and be used like a slave by injecting them
with hypnotics and programming them to kill people as army recruits. Therefore science devoid
of spiritualism becomes a tool for downfall rather than evolution.

Youth and teachers are expected to be intelligent and alert, not postmen of mediocrity.
To have a scientific attitude is to have an open mind. Not rote learning. Another qualification of
a true scientist is honesty borne out of conviction.

Frankly, I was sorely disappointed by many exhibits, devoid of creativity, window-dressed as
it would seem to win the prizes rather than apply the mind. It was routine. There was no originality.
No new ideas. To the best part of our ignorance that we arrange and classify, we give the name
"Knowledge". What the budding scientists have to understand is that science is not uni-dimensional.
Everything has got minimum two sides.

Science is only a medium to understand Spiritualism;
Most of us have not been able to to understand the subject logically because we have not been able to elevate our selves spiritually to the level, where we are in a capacity to understand the subject logically

We live in a material world hence we tend to understand any thing related to material / physical very quickly. But then there is another world too beyond this one (the source of our origination) which is way beyond the understanding of normal people like you & me.
And that's how those few who were able to understand spiritualsm, became prophets

Science has nothing to do with spiritualism. Science is a process for finding facts by doing experiments and having them confirmed by other people.

I have never had anyone satisfactorily even explain to me what spiritualism is.

It depends on who you ask.

Albert Einstein said "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

You do not have to be a "spiritual" person to accept the tenets of science. Nor do you have to be a scientific person to be spiritual. There are many people, including myself, though, that believe in both science and some sort of faith.
