Hi Vanity, I can help you with this question.
First of all, let's start with the basics, when it comes to other peoples' opinions, it doesn't matter what people think of you, it only matter what YOU, think about yourself. When you worry about what others think of you, you are no longer living for you, you are living for them. And if you are living for them........who then is living for you.
So, from this point on, you are now going to begin to live for you. Right? Right! It's okay to ask someone for an opinion, BUT, after they give you their opinion, it is up to whether or not the advice they give is worth really takiing or not.
Here is an example: Let's say I have always wanted to learn how to do modern dance, and I am telling one of my friends what I want to do and they say, "You got to be kidding me, that is so gay!"
The first thing I would say is, "First of all, I am not gay, and even if I was that would be my business, and not your's. Second of all, dancing has nothing to do with being gay, and third of all, I am going to learn modern dance, because it's what I want to do" (by the way, I would say this in a calm voice, no need to be angry)
Then I would say to them, "The reason YOU say taking dance lessons is for gays, is because YOU are afraid this is what people are going to think of you".
So Vanity, just remember that you, are in charge of you. And, no matter what people think of you, or what their opnion is, it doesn't matter, because if it did matter, we wouldn't have people like Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, or anyone else who is famous, if they changed their dreams because of someone's opinion of them.
Cheers and best wishes
David

most comedians are very shy, so my suggestion would be to develop a very, very good sense of humor. See the humor in everything, even your shyness. The other way is to wait until your old and then you don't care what anyone thinks. No sense in taking anything too serious so lighten up. Are you from a large family? I believe that contributes to shyness. One other point; Put a great value on your own opinion. You are putting a higher value on others opinion instead of your own. Look out for yourself, not what others think. From one who battled the same problem for years until I learned coping skills. Hang in there; You can overcome it.

The most important opinion in your life is the one you have of yourself!
The opinion of everyone else comes next!
You have great power!
You are incredible!
You must discover these two truths for yourself!
