If not, then are they content to continue paying the high property taxes?

Mary, I respectfully disagree, as our property taxes have not hit over $20G a year, and most of his is thanks to the school district which pays six digit salaries for administrators who don't even work and needed $85 M for reconstruction a fwe years ago, yet they are ostriches when it comes to keeping the gangs out of schools. I think there has to be a limit to their follies. Let them make some hard choices now.

I protest the valuation of my house every year, especially this year. Given the softness of the housing market you should be able to get your value lowered, especially if there are lots of forclosures in the area depressing sales prices.

Things are not very over priced in my area, but the assessed values have been under fair market value. Thus only in rare cases has their been a reduction of assessed value. You realize that if assessed values start dropping, that tax rates will go up?

House prices aren't even dropping, certainly not in the north west where i live, either way buy 2010 house prices will be at least 10% more than what they are now.

Nope, because market value and tax value ARE 100% UNRELATED.

People need to pound that into their brains.

Do you think that because property values have fallen that the COSTS TO OPERATE THE COUNTY/CITY have fallen?

Heck no they haven't...that is why when the real estate market drops, your TAXES DON'T!
