write them together

8x-3x(x terms or variables) + 9+7(constants)
solve x terms sepsrately and constants separately and add

5x +16

Just add the two expressions together:
f(x) + g(x) = -3x+9+8x+7 = 5x+16.

= -3x + 9 + 8x + 7

perhaps you mean f(g(x)) , then,
it's u = -3(8x+7) + 9
if you mean g(f(x) , then ,
its v = 8(-3x+9) + 7
