to ellen: it's not racism, it's curiosity. if anything it is a compliment to african americans (by saying they look good for their age) as opposed to european americans, in which we age quicker and we do not look good for our age.

so dont attack me for being curious and asking a simple question.

Yes, black people age the slowest. I would say it's because our skin is very tight and very thick. It does not sag easily. Melanin could be a factor, but bear in mind that light-skinned black people do not age fast either. It's just the way God made us most likely because we had to survive the hot African sun.

It's true, but only when they take good care of themselves. The poor and downtrodden look a mess, but middle-upper middle class and wealthy black women age super slowly because they are able to eat better and they care about being healthy more than poor black women. I have a family friend who is in her late 70s, dark-skinned good looking woman and she looks pretty much the same as she did every since I was a little girl. Nothing drastic of a difference, but she's a very classy, lived an upper class life, with her husband who was a professor, and she looks like age hasn't stopped her one bit.

Yes it is a fact that they will age slower unless something like smoking interferes. It's because black people have melanin in their skin while white people usually lack it. Melanin protects from the sun. Without melanin the sun causes wrinkles in the skin.

I believe it's because of the extra melanin in their skin. They don't wrinkle and such as quickly and easily as whites do. I have been amazed as to how youthful they look. Of course I'm sure there's always exceptions, sun exposure, genes. Some are just lucky to age better than others.

Black people age slower than whites because Blacks have more melanin in their skin than white people. Does that answer your question?

I think it may just because its easier to see dead skin on Black people's body's so Black people use lotion more then white and it keeps there skin healthier. Can't be caught being ashy.

White women age worse than any other group because they have the thinnest skin. Black men age the best. Men have thicker skin than women, and blacks have more melanin than any other race. That is why they're naturally found in warmer climates; their skin acts as a barrier to the elements. Florida is known as the worst state for skin because a lot of white people live down there who were meant for cooler European climates. They try to tan and become brown and their skin rebels. Latins, Asians, and people who have more melanin can take it. We all still should use SPF year-round and baby our skin. However, non-white skin is more durable than white, and that is why we're known for looking young for our age.
