Last night I had friends and their children round. Two of the girls I see regularly and we all went on holiday this year as families. The other girl I have know since school but I haven't been in much contact for the past few years - odd night out, phone call but not much else. The old schoolfriend has just split up with her husband and was quite drink. She really upset one of my other friends by making constant side remarks. The friend left and took her children. The girl who had upset her was not even aware. My dilema is we were going bowling with kids tomorrow with a different friend altogether. The friend who has been upset says she will not go if the other girl is there as she couldn't be civil. I have had to lie to the old school friend that the lane has been double booked and we are no longer going, although we are. Feel terrible - have I done the right thing? By the way, the school friend has always been stroppy so not result of the split up.

Can't tell the old school friend what exactly happened - the other girl is an assistant at her son's school - but they have never been that friendly.

You probably will be happier if you go with the people who will conduct themselves in a good manner. If it makes you feel better make a date with the other friend with just you and her so if she offends anyone it will only be you>> Good Luck!!

If she is your old school friend, then why would you need to lie to her? it seems pretty practical and simple to just say Hey you were really intoxicated, and you may not know it but (WHATEVER THE OTHER WOMANS NAME IS)...is upset about whatever you had said. Its better to just be straight forward about it, and understand where both of them r coming from. what is stroppy...by the way?
also if shes drinking to the point of being unaware of hurting other peoples feelings, being a beligerent depressed angry butt then maybe you should talk to her about this before it becomes a habit.
im sure your old school friend will understand- if you guys are close, i mean, you should not have to lie about something so petty....

no i believe in the truth and you should have told the school friend the truth. she could feel really bad and want to call the other friend to apologize and work things out so everybody can have a fun time at bowling. now the right thing to do is to call your school friend, explain to her the entire thing, give her the number to the friend who got upset and hope for the best.

I don't think that lying is ever the right thing to do. We all do it, but it's never the right thing. I think you should take both of the friends out to lunch and explain to them that they need to get along with one another or you can't hang out with either of them, because it's way too difficult for you. Maybe they will be able to settle their differences.

Lieing is never a good idea. It will always get you into trouble.

Tell the friend the realy story. That her behavior upset one of your other friends. And you aren't welcome when there is an outing that includes her.

Be honest. Honesty is the best policy.

You should of just tolg her that they were both your friends and if she had a problem with the other girl to not get you involved in it.
