My mother died, and my father, Captain Crewe, serves in India, so he left me at a boarding school. It was fine at first, but then he died, and left no money, so Miss Minchin took away all my things, toys and clothes, and send me to sleep at the attic. I work as a servant for free, without any payment, I am always hungry, they never give me enough to eat, and I have only one dress to wear. I am so lonely, unhappy and starving! What should I do?

Do something nice for someone else. Maybe you could go visit that nice Indian Gentleman next door. Cheer him up with stories about your Papa.

Consider novel writing. Tell your story.

Be positive--your dress is probably fairly clean, maybe even stylish, you have a roof over your head, you're probably not in danger of obesity any time soon, and you're learning job skills.

Next, consider calling 1-800-232-6459 http://www.family.org they are licensed counselors and will be able to help; also, 1-800-525-LOVE http://www.klove.com is similarly good.

Don't twit them, Sara, they will get after you more than Miss Minchin!

Merry Christmas!

All right, Sara, go and visit with the other servant girl who is in the room next to you. If that doesn't help any, talk to the rat, and if that doesn't work just go to sleep and the Indian man who lives next door should be there shortly to solve all your problems.
Good luck!

Take in Ram Dass' pet monkey. Return it tomorrow. You'll discover that you have a massive inheritance and you are filthy rich.

Go into the garden and eat some worms.
Long thin slimy ones slip down easily. Short fat furry ones don't. Short fat furry ones stick in your teeth and the juice goes schlurp down your throat.
