That's rude. No woman wants to be told she's "getting chunky" as a Christmas present. When you're buying a woman a gift, get her something she wants, not something you want.

You NEVER give a woman you are dating or married to a dieting book as a matter of fact you don't give any woman a dieting book, you see in her mind she thinks you are trying to tell her she is fat, there is nothing you can do now until she calms down...You did a very bad thing.
You could try to calm her down by saying your sorry and then taking the book back and buying something else for her, but I don't think it will help much, and no you can not sue her for slapping you because you deserved it, if you walked into a court room and the judge was a woman and she heard the whole story she would probably slap you to.

Christmas is no the time to tell your wife she is a little chubby.
the recipoe book should have been put under the tree! then the answer as to why you got it should have been, the recipes looked good!!! Not that she was getting a little chunky!!! You better have a gift that says I love you just the way yiou are. May be a sexy little teddy that says I think you'll look great in this!!! Good luck! Merry Christmas

Even though you had the best of intentions, this gift was kind of an insult to her. She is probably already aware that she may be a little overweight and, your gift only confirmed what she already knows. As far as correcting the situation, this will be a challenge because her feelings are hurt. Maybe you can make up for it by taking her out somewhere that she enjoys going to. There must be something that you know will make her happy. I would tell her that you're "sorry for hurting your feelings and, what can I do to make up for it " ?? By acknowledging her feelings, you're letting her know that you care for her & love her. I hope that this is useful and Good Luck !!

Maybe she should give you an early Xmas present too. How would you like a book on how to be a decent human being? Or how not to bomb in the bedroom? Or how to regrow the hair on your bald spot? How about how to make a decent living rather than the poor excuse of the job you have?
All very sore spots for men? Weight and looks are sore spots for women.

No-one wants to hear that they are a little chunky, even if they are. Dieting books are not appropriate gifts for your wife, unless she is a nutritionist. The cost of the gift is not the issue, it's the thought of the gift.
Your gift and especially your comments made your wife feel bad about herself. You've got a LOT of making up to do.
Good Luck.

ummmmm wow, you never buy a woman a dieting book. If she feels fat, and feels the need to go on a diet, then she'll buy it herself. I really don't get pissed easy at my boyfriend but that would make me mad too. And then to tell her that she's getting chunky???? Dude what were you thinking?? Y|ou better take that book back, and buy her a diamond necklace then tell her she looks beautifulll.

Take out a good life insurance policy first.
Then explain to her that maybe the book was more designed as an activity that the two of you can do together to start living a healthier, more active lifestyle, and have quality one on one time together

Oh come on is this a joke?? You would have been better off buying her an ironing board or a deep fat fryer. I hope you have got her something decent like: perfume, jewelery or gift vouchers to open on the day or your in the dog house til way into the new year.

Things never to buy a woman as a present: dieting books as they imply she is fat (even if she is and complains about it....you don't agree with her...tell her she's tall, she's thins, she's beautiful). Appliances...and even if they are needed, they are not gifts. You'll end up in the doghouse for months and never hear the end of it.
At this point, you need to grovel and beg her forgiveness....and you'll still never hear the end of this.
