Reason why parents do this to their own kids is because the parents are WHACKED! Some parents think that they must control their children in this manner and they think they have total rights over their children. I've got news for them.
Parents don't have rights over their children because children have rights. They merely have a responsibility to guide them into productive and positive adults---which lots of parents have totally lost this concept. Especially in todays era, children will become neurotic adults not having any desire to make their own decisions and I will be armed.

Well, the way you present your question does not shine praise on the public education system. As to why those kids might be... "whack," certainly there is likely a different set of social skills they have (or not). But, it might also be a function of their parents' style of parenting. Alternatively, there might be many explanations. Nevertheless, I wouldn't say all fit into the mold you so eloquently described. But, I certainly would not want my child home schooled, despite the fact my wife is a teacher. I think an education provides an experience much more than the three R's.

Home-schooled kids are not around other children and so do not rightly construct the social skills they will need later on in life. Going to school is more than reading, writing and math---it's about learning how to socialize.

You answered your question in your question. They lack social skills because they don't get that social interaction with the other kids. I mean it's okay to be home-schooled, however, make sure they still have interaction with other kids a well.

Your experience is very different from mine. In my experience, homeschooled kids have been the most intelligent, successful, and caring/kind. Just because someone is homeschooled doesn't mean he has no friends. There are plenty of homeschooling groups that allow kids to make friends outside of school.
I don't know what you mean by "whack," but I'm sure plenty of schoolchildren would fit in that category as well.

It is not my experience.
My children were partly home schooled part free schooled part de schooled partly chose to go to state school - and are very sociable and loved have great families and great jobs -
How many state schooled children relatively / percentage wise have great social skills. I wonder if you are just looking at them differently. I met a lot of kids who had been de-schooled and freeschooled and they were much more confident and creative and out going than the ones I met from state schools.
Some children just cannot take the pressure of state school.

I think their parents do it out of fear for their little babies! They think that if they send them to public school that they'll be teased, bullied, & become drug addicts. I work in the public school system & kids aren't all bad like that. Sure there's always some but, if your in a good public school system the administration handles these kids quite well. They NEED the socialization!

Home school kids are not used to having to be prepared for class and they don't feel the need to be more responsible. Going to school needs more responsibilities. Home school kids get to lay around while kids who go to school have to work more and do more.
