I just got my 11 year old neice tickets to THE NUTCRACKER!!!!!! I gave them to her expecting her to yell and screem, act excited, call all her friends. i dont know. All she did was say "cool" and go onto the next present. Whats wrong with her why isn't she pump'd. I have kids (6 months, 2, 4, and 5 all girls) and I think they would love tickets?????

first, 11 is just about the borderline of those few years where you're not little enough to just go along with whatever but you're not old enough to appreciate what you get.
second, how many tickets did you get her, can she even bring those friends you hoped she would call? you expected her to scream and call people about tickets to a ballet - is that even in her interest? that would be a reasonable reaction if she wants to be a dancer when she grows up maybe, but other than that the reaction you got was pretty standard.
try to remember what it was like when you were 11. middle school life is hard, puberty sucks, and people treat you like you're a lot younger or a lot more mature than you are. i think her reaction could've been a little happier, but do you really want to be the aunt that makes the kid give a forced smile?

OK< here's what you do. She was, first of all, VERY VERY rude. NO excuse for that remark in that tone. What a little b*tch. NO gifts at ALL fro the next few years until she loses that bad attitude and comes to understand the world was not put here for her exclusive use...she must learn to be considerate of others. NO gifts! If anyone asks you, simply say, Well, she seemed so unappreciative of my last gift I realize I don't know what to give her so I'll wait awhile before trying that again/" Period. You owe her NOTHING>

Cool is a thanks what do you need her to kiss your feet.
There is nothing wrong with her it's you.
Sounds like you wanted to keep the tickets for yourself and would like your niece to be forever grateful and owe you or something. I give a gift from the heart am prepared to exchange it if it isn't needed and never expect gushy thank yous and cartwheels from the receiver, just try and be happy for others and stop putting yourself first I'm sure other people were waiting for her to open their gifts did you think of them
CLEARLY NO.

That's cause these days, kids, even nine year olds, want to see popular music stuff, things that they can sing along to and stuff. They totally lose sense of classical taste and probably get brainwashed by MTV....especially 11 year olds. I don't think she'll even want to go if she was given tickets to some Disney popstar i know or some Top 40 artist in town.

I went to the nutcracker and it was amazing and i was like, 10, so she should like it. maybe she isnt into it and is a tomboy or something. you should ask her to go with YOU and see her reaction, or give her ideas to ask some friends. if u want to ask anymore questions you can reply to this question!

Because when you are eleven you start liking more mature stuff like clothes, or jewelry. She was probably into the nutcracker when she was younger, but now that is not really a source of entertainment.

Some kids aren't interested in certain things. Maybe she'd rather go to a Joe Brother concert or a Montana Hannah one.

she is 11 not 7! She will be starting high school soon if she hasn't already. She may be a girl, but she won't be into those sorts of things any more. Try a bratz doll or a more modern thing that girls of her age may like - makeup etc
