Yes society shapes many aspects of our lives, but sexual orientation has been shown to be affected by genes and prenatal conditions while having no correlation to events after birth. Essentially your orientation is determined before birth.

Environment does play a role in molding a person. However, there is much to be said about heredity and genetics. But all in all, we become what we are by the decisions we make. Being gay is not about how one looks physically, mannerisms and all. It's about being attracted to a person of the same gender as yours. However, no matter the temptations, one is not judge by them but by ones decisions.

No, I don't believe society or our environment creates one's sexuality. That is determined genetically.
Society and environment can have an impact on values, behavioral traits and one's willingness to be open about your sexuality (for instance a gay man or woman in San Francisco is much more likely to comfortable being themselves than one is a small Midwestern or Southern town).
