im English and i admire the asian community.
your grandparents arrived here with nothing, and they suffered great indignations and poverty. but they bought thier village mentality and community with them, and they worked together, supporting one another...
and your parents dont want you to be shopkeepers.. or shop workers... and the only way out is education... and hard work. our daughter is 17 and off to study medicine at warwick... she didnt get there being a chav hoodie...
parents always want to give their kids what they didnt get...

Answer to your question is quite simple, I can tell bcoz im am one. Life in Asia is very different than the rest of the world. People in Europe , America get a decent job immediately after high school. In Asia, skill and basic education do not necessarily fetch a decent job. Lets take the example of India- in a recent article i read that India is the 4 or 5th largest economy in the world, its also the second highest population in the world (after China ) here 100$ is shared by 100 people that leaves everyone with a single $. Whereas in Europe and America its only shared by 10 so everyone gets $10, what im trying to explain here is that even though its a large economy , per capita income for a common man is meager. So parents here want their children to be more than just common which is only achievable if their children have a respected and in-demand degree. I have seen Arts/Commerce/Science grads here working in grocery shops or as accountants in small malls. In India the phase has come that even engineers fail to get a good job. Competition here has reached to such an extent that u have to be an almost Einstein to clear the entrance examinations for admissions to professional courses like Medicine/Engg./Veterinary etc. Sure, such competition is bad to some extent, but look at the bright side, the candidates who get through such examinations are the best of the lot and are sure to make a successful Doctor or engineer or...... in the future. This is the chief reason why Asian parents want their children to be the professionals in the topmost strata so that a good future is guaranteed to them.

Well first I believe all parents want their best for their children, education wise and just life in general. But, with that said, I will answer your question.
I was married to an Asian for 15 years. I have seen the differences between Americans and Asians on how we look at things. I really believe that most Asians have seen how hard life is in third world countries. They do not want too see this for their children. They believe money is the answer....period. They work very hard to make sure they get what they want. Thus, working hard to make sure their kids get into the best schools, and get a good degree. They do not want to see their children struggle like they did in a third world country.

Asian parents (like mine) are used to focusing on education. If your parents came from a different country they knew they needed to get a good education to do well and succeed. especially to get in the US. Education is valued a lot more in asian countries than here and I'm not quite sure why.. I think it is because there are a lot more poor people in those countries and they know that the only thing keeping them off the streets is getting an education and making money.

Well I think most parents want this for their kids. Some don't, perhaps because they were never educated so they don't think their kids need to be because they got by fine enough. They could be many reasons for your situation. 1. I think most religious people want their children to go to college and/or university. Muslims, Hindu's, christians etc. I know this because in high school I knew a lot of people from different backgrounds and a lot of childrens families who were religous had high expectations for their children. It could be because your parents have had a hard life and want their children to do well/to be proud of them or to live their dreams through you. Or just feel a sense of achievement. Most parents want their kids to be just happy, but a lot I guess would be slightly disappointment if their didn't achieve a great deal.

Back in Asia more in India people have realized the value of education. They see security in education when going is not good economically in the family. With good education you can do anything service or business and earn in short time so education is considered hard cash by asians to get their children married and settled better and fast

because like all parents they want whats best for their children, it is a very competative world the higher you education the farthr you will go and the mor money you will earn. they want you to have a good life and will make any sacrifice needed....use moronic americans care more about sports then we do education, push push push our kids for th football scholorship, instead of pushing our kids to do well in school to get to a good collage to have a very successfull career even if no one cares and your never in the spotlight but with a good education you will never run out of oppertunities just because you tear your acl...(a tendon in the knee) but parents do that every where, my son is four i am 24 and already am saving a little for him... the early the better even if it is only a few dollars here and there and if i have to drive the same car till he is out of school to do so, so be it...good luck!!!! your parents just love you. and obviously want whats best.

It's the culture. Asian cultures place a lot of value on getting an education. Maybe because they better understand the connection between education and ability to earn more money.

I am not Asian. However, I believe that education is the most important thing in this world. If you are stupid you will never get anywhere in life, never accomplish anything, never have any money..... you will be miserable! I think Asian's do the right thing by their kids. I will make my children go to school to be something they can be proud of as adults.
