Use the text editor emacs. It can do almost anything.

For phases of the Moon, use:
Control-u alt-x phases-of-moon
Then type the year, the name of the month and the date, pressing return between each, and emacs will tell you the phases around that date.

Seriously, get it and you will never need anything else on your computer. It does everything except play media files.
