Hi,

Last week my son put a plastic toy in the heat register (it's the electric type of heater, attached to the baseboard of every room of our apartment, not forced air or anything like that) and of course it started to melt. We caught it pretty quickly and got all the visible plastic cleaned out, but the smell of melting plastic is still very obvious. Is there any way to get rid of the smell or do I have to let it "burn off"? I don't want my son sleeping in a room that is reeking of melting plastic, but it also gets too cold in there to leave the heater off. Suggestions?

The heating unit is permantly attached to the wall. We tried to disassemble it in order to clean it out (I wanted to anyway to get all the dust completely cleaned out), but it appears there is no way to do so.

take the register off and scrub the register. also, check to make sure none of the plastic went into the vent, if so scrub it out also.
